Fire Rated
Fire Door Hardware – Certified Fire Rated Door Furniture | Duffells
Duffells stocks a comprehensive trade range of fire rated door hardware, including lever handles, hinges, closers, and locks certified for use in fire door assemblies. All hardware used on a fire door must carry appropriate fire certification — using non-certified products can invalidate the door's fire rating and create a serious compliance risk. Fire Rated Lever Handles & Door Furniture
Our fire rated lever handles and door furniture are tested and certified for use on fire door assemblies to the requirements of BS EN 1634. Available in a range of lever styles and finishes, our fire rated handles match the aesthetic of our standard architectural door furniture range wherever possible, ensuring a consistent appearance throughout a building.
Fire Rated Door Closers
All fire doors must be fitted with a certified self-closing device. Our fire rated door closers are tested to BS EN 1154 and are suitable for use on timber and steel fire door assemblies. We stock overhead and concealed options to suit different installation requirements and aesthetic specifications.
Fire Rated Cylinders & Barrels
Door cylinders fitted to fire doors must also be fire certified. Our fire rated cylinders and barrels are tested for use in fire door assemblies and are available in euro profile, oval, and rim configurations.
Panic Hardware for Fire Doors
Where a fire door is also on an escape route, it may require panic hardware certified to both BS EN 1125 and fire door standards. See our panic and emergency exit hardware range for fire rated panic bar and push pad options.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does all hardware on a fire door need to be fire certified?
Yes. Every component fitted to a fire door — handles, hinges, closers, locks, cylinders, and letter plates — must carry appropriate fire certification. The fire door's overall performance is only as good as its weakest component.
What certification should I look for on fire door hardware?
Look for products tested to BS EN 1634 for door assembly tests, BS 476 for older UK-standard tests, or Certifire/BWF-Certifire approval schemes. The product data sheet should clearly state the door leaf thickness and fire resistance period (typically 30 or 60 minutes) for which the product has been tested.
Can I use standard hinges on a fire door?
No. Hinges on fire doors must be fire rated and typically require a minimum of three hinges per door leaf of 2100mm height or above. Standard hinges must not be used on fire door assemblies.
What happens if non-certified hardware is fitted to a fire door?
Using non-certified hardware invalidates the fire door's certification, meaning the door will no longer perform to its rated standard in a fire. This creates a serious liability risk for the installer and building owner, and may result in building control non-compliance.
