UPVC Door Handle FAQs

There are several different types of UPVC door handles available, each with its own unique features and benefits.

Lever/Lever Door Handles

Lever Lever UPVC Door Handles

Lever/Lever handles consist of two moveable inline handles. These are the most common type of UPVC door handle and are typically used for residential properties. They are easy to use and come in a variety of styles, including traditional and modern designs. They can be locked using a key or a thumbturn cylinder on the inside of the door.

Lever / Moveable Pad (Inline)

An inline/moveable pad handle is used for multipoint door locks that have a split spindle in the gearbox. The split spindle means the pad handle can operate the lock without moving the lever on the other side.

Lever / Moveable Pad (Offset)

When choosing a replacement UPVC door handle, there are a few key measurements that you will need to take into consideration in order to ensure that the new handle will fit properly and function correctly. Here are some of the most important measurements to keep in mind:
UPVC Door Handles measurements

  1. A - PZ (PZ Centres) - This measurement refers to the distance between the center of the handle spindle to the center of the top of the euro hole cut out on the door handle. This measurement is typically measured in millimeters, and it is important to ensure that the new handle has the same PZ measurement as your existing handle in order to ensure a proper fit.
  2. B - Screw Centers - This measurement refers to the distance between the 2 screw holes on the door handle. This measurement is typically measured in millimeters.
  3. C - Backplate - The backplate is the part of the handle that attaches to the door, and it is important to measure the length and width of your existing backplate in order to ensure that the new handle will fit properly and cover any mess left from the previous handle. This measurement is typically measured in millimeters, and it should be taken from the top of the backplate to the bottom.
  4. Spindle Length - The spindle is the part of the handle that connects the handle to the latch mechanism, and it is important to measure the length of your existing spindle in order to ensure that the new handle will fit properly. This measurement is typically measured in millimeters, and it should be taken from the top of the spindle to the bottom.
  5. Additional measurements – To verify that the door handle you have selected is exactly correct, it is advised you additionally take note of the following measurements:
    1. Distance between the top screw hole and the centre of the spindle.
    2. Distance between the bottom of the euro cut out and the bottom screw hole.
How to measure a UPVC Door Handle

When choosing a replacement UPVC door handle, it is important to make sure that the new handle has the same PZ measurement, screw centres, same or greater backplate length measurement. This will ensure that the new handle will fit properly and function correctly. Additionally, it is also important to make sure that the new handle is compatible with your door’s lock mechanism, as many UPVC door handles are designed to work with specific lock types. Taking these measurements and considering compatibility is crucial to ensure that your new door handle will be a perfect fit and will work seamlessly with your door.

Replacing a UPVC door handle is a relatively simple task that can be completed in a few steps. Before you begin, you will need a few tools, including a screwdriver, a drill, and a replacement handle.

Step 1 - Remove the old handle

To remove the old handle, begin by using the screwdriver to remove the screws that hold the handle in place. These screws will typically be located on the inside and outside of the door, near the handle. Once the screws are removed, gently pull the handle away from the door.

Step 2 - Double-check the measurements of your new handle

Before you install the new handle, you will need to measure the dimensions of the new handle to ensure that it will fit properly.

Step 3 - Drill new holes for the new handle

If the new handle has different hole locations than the old one, use the drill to create new holes in the door. Make sure the new holes align with the screw holes on the handle.

Step 4 - Install the new handle

Once the holes are drilled, you can install the new handle. Begin by sliding the spindle through the holes in the door and then align the handle with the screw holes. Secure the handle in place with the screws that were removed earlier.

Step 5 - Test the handle

After the handle is installed, test it to make sure it is working properly. Open and close the door to ensure that the handle is securely in place and that the lock is working properly.
