Product FAQs

How do I know the difference between fail safe and fail secure?

A fail safe product will default to the unlocked position when no power is being supplied to it. A fail secure product will default to the locked position when no power is being supplied to it. To determine which you need you must find out if power is being supplied when the door is needed to open (Fail Secure) or if the supply of power is being interrupted or stopped when the door is needed to open (Fail Safe). If you are unsure which you need, please call the Duffells Access Control team for assistance.

Why are there two faceplates supplied?

For convenience, this product is supplied with a rim mounting box fitted for surface installation (for use with rim nightlatches) and a separate mortice faceplate (for use with mortice latches). Swapping them over is a simple process. Just remove the two screws and fit the release body to whichever is the required faceplate.

What is the purpose of the adjustable Jaw?

The projection of the jaw on some releases can be adjusted slightly. This is to help align the keep more precisely with the leading edge of the latch bolt. When using releases with adjustable jaws, the overall depth accommodation of the jaw decreases, and the latch bolt will not project as far into the release. For this reason adjustable jaw releases are often not suitable with double locking, anti thrust, or British Standard type latches. Adjustable jaw releases are most often seen used with short projection latches such as those found on multipoint locks for double glazed doors.
